Teach with Testable

This journey is for instructors who want students to take part in live behavioural experiments through Testable Class. It is shorter than the other journeys because class tests are ordinary Testable projects, so most of what you need is the same builder knowledge every researcher uses. By the end you can fill a class with tests, run them for credit, and read the class results.

Understand Testable Class

1. What is Testable Class?. Read the whole page. It covers what a class is, the three ways to add tests (import your own project, pick a ready-made test from the catalogue, or build from scratch), the four per-test switches (Live, For credit, Can import, Can modify), and how students find and join a class.

Learn the builder

Ready-made catalogue tests work without any of this, so skip this stage on a first pass if you only run prepared experiments. Read it before building or modifying your own class tests.

2. Create Your First Experiment. The Kickstart form, the Testable Library, and the publish and go-live steps. This is the same flow you use when creating a test straight into a class.

3. Trial File Fundamentals. The core model, each row is a trial and each column a parameter, plus the required type column. Enough to read and tweak any catalogue test, and essential if students will modify their imported copies.

4. Previewing Your Trials. Run through a test yourself before making it Live for students, exactly as you would before recruiting participants.

Run your class

5. Point students at the right tab. The overview’s How it works section explains what students see: demo tests to explore freely, tests for credit (credit is earned once and the test locks after completion), and My tests for their own imported copies. Set each test’s switches accordingly before class.

6. Read the class results. The What instructors see section covers per-test results visualisation and the per-student roster, and notes that results from students’ own copies flow back into your original project. Testable Class documentation is still early: the overview is currently the one dedicated page, with detailed guides for class setup, the catalogue, and class results on their way. Class is included in departmental licences, so contact us to set it up for your department or to get help in the meantime.

You are ready when your class holds at least one Live test, students can run it (for credit where you intend it), and you can open its results and the enrolled-students roster and make sense of both.
